(Pulaski county) We hired him for my brother case in knox and he did great. My brother then had case In pulaski and he got Richard as a public defender that's when a good lawyer turned into incompetent lawyer. Richard all of a sudden forgot how to use his knowledge and voice to provide his client with legal representation. He forgot to file one motion during the process he never communicated and the state wouldn't allow my brother time to speak with Richard before a hearing to revoke his probation. Richard could have used that alone for a defense strategy and he knows the state violated the requirement to allow the defendant to speak with counsel before he pled guilty. (All for a misdemeanor) Crazy thing is he was only sentenced to 1 yr probation couple years ago and all of this is still going on now he has to sit in the jail for 1 yr. The worst part is to hear most of the inmates that are locked up used him also and they all they the same thing. That's ok because Richard might have thought he could do this but I think he forgot he can be held accountable under Legal Malpractice in Indiana. Richard please start to provide good legal representation to your clients you did great for us when we paid you and when he used you as a public defender you acted totally different.

DON'T know how he does it, just GLAD he does!! Highly recommend IF YOU'RE NOT FROM THE AREA !! 1/3 the cost OF (IF you can find ) a lawyer WILLING to travel to Knox, IN from.. say, just Michigan City/Laporte/Merrillville (30 min drive away NORTH ..) roughly . Yes , in state. Ikr? *** I made SURE he is paid in full because i did NOT see a (what Knox,IN calls a unbiased ) courtroom . Just saying.. the truth.

Worst attorney by far! Do not choose this unprofessional attorney who works for Pulaski County and not for the person who paid him to do something for their case! He never done anything at all! Never filled a motion to dismiss charges or to terminate the no contact order! Only thing he did right for the case was resign from the it after a year because of conflict of interest! The conflict of interest came about because he must of just realized that he was court appointed for my husbands mother after a year to be exact she had already plead out and is already done with probation by the time he wanted to resign… but my husband paid him and Ballard couldn’t get my husband to plea so He resigned from the case! He works for Pulaski County not for the person who pays him! My advice to you keep seeking different counsel!

One Helluva A Lawyer....He Has Always Got My Charges Dismissed or He Got Me A Real Good Plea... So I Would Recommend Him As A First Phone Call To A Lawyer Before I Would Call Any Other Lawyer...

Extremely unorganized and uncaring for clients and case outcomes. Very poor communication. Response given to questions asked is that his client "would need to ask to the prosecutor"
