Worse experience ever. Never returned phone calls or emails. Took our money and did little to nothing. My now wife got ran over in court because she did nothing to fight back. At first she acts like she will fight for you then you pay her and she does nothing. Lazy lawyer advise against even contacting this lawyer. Save your money because literally any other lawyer will fight better for you.

If I could give zero Stars I would. I always had to chase her down for updates on my case. When she did "help" me she agreed with everything my exes lawyer wanted an did not advocate for me to the judge whatsoever and now I am paying heavily for that. Very unprofessional I don't care what you have going on or what level you are incapacitated... you have an assistant who should have reached out to your clients and let them know that you are no longer an attorney and arrange a refund of retainer fees!!! You will definitely pay for leaving me hanging during these legal troubles I will be filing a complaint with the bar and working diligently to get my money back.

AVOID this attorney! She made me all kinds of promises when she took my case on and I was referred to her by a domestic violence group, so she is supposed to be an attorney that is for women like me who have been wrong by the court system and truly need help. I had a domestic violence group pay her the retainer, and that was on 3/15/23…. She has been telling me for at least six months. She is waiting on a transcript and that the washburn law school Working on my case.

I called the Shawnee County courts myself after all this time of waiting and being ignored and getting no answers when they finally answer and found out no transcript has been requested and my case is NOT with Washburn law school either I confirmed this with them too!!!!

I was supposed to have an appointment with her last week to have answers that I’m demanding after finding all this out and instead she just missed the appointment and is ignoring me even though I let her know I will be filing a complaint with the board because I have no other option With her ignoring me.

I lost my kids my house, my business everything I ever had due to the courts decisions to believe my ex husband and the fraud he committed to get awarded 4,600 a month in support even though I never had a bank account for 10 years leading up to this divorce and she was supposed to be my one shot at fixing things, and instead this has turned into an even bigger nightmare.

I would give 0 stars if I could!!!!!

UPDATE: She did not notify me of a motion my ex husband filed on July 30th 2024 and did NOT even respond to the court or show up to my hearing on September 6, 2024 in Topeka forcing me to drive from Colorado to Kansas for court in less than 48 hours because I was only allowed to appear by zoom if my attorney showed up. She has continued to ignore me since and even sends me straight to voicemail sometimes.

I have been trying to work with Ms. Kent to receive the money from my ex husband for medical bills and to get my daughter access to her funds. It’s been a year without any updates or communication from Ms. Kent today I was supposed to have a phone meeting and she didn’t call. This is the third missed meeting from her. She has never responded to my emails. When we talked in March she said that I would have a court date in a couple of weeks, it’s been 4 months and not a word from her. I would not recommend Janay Kent.

I literally had to go to court to get her to pay my retainer money back. She dodged me for months and months and months. Big headache. Definitely would not recommend. At least I got my money back and then some.

I never fill out these things, but I really feel upset and wronged by someone I really needed desperate legal help from. A mutual friend recommended that I seek out Janay’s help in April of 2019. I called her and we set up a time for consultation. The receptionist told me one time but Janay called an hour later than I was told. She said she would help me with my legal needs. I emailed her my information as she suggested. A week and a half later, I called and left a message check on the status of my legal work. No answer. I also emailed. No answer. I called/emailed once a week for 3 weeks until I finally gave up on getting the much needed help my family needed. It’s July and I still haven’t heard anything from her. If she wasn’t able to help, a return phone call would’ve been greatly appreciated instead of leaving me hanging. It was a total was of my time and highly unprofessional. I am dealing with an abusive, narcissistic ex husband, who has a history & court record of abusing my sons as well. So If you’re wanting Janay to take you seriously and help you out, with a difficult, time sensitive issue, find someone else.

In the short amount of time of working with her my first impression of her I was still confused I didn't know if she had me and my children the best interest at heart I'm still not sure you've talked on the phone a couple times you met in person twice since she's taking my case but we've never discussed next steps for anything like that she wanted to know like my background history my childhood gave her back stories on the relationship she did mention like 3 weeks ago what it would look like if my abusive alcoholic narcissistic X that's the two children that I had with him which races safety concerns back he's never wanted to be involved with them ever he's been stalking me he tells his attorney that he don't know why none of that I've dealt with the whole kvc and DCF thing and it feels like she's siding with them and I don't know what else I could do but that's just my experience I'm still iffy if I can trust her I'm just my emotions all over the place especially when my children are involved like it was bad enough being in a relationship with him the whole physical verbal mental emotional abuse that me and my children endure it's like nobody cares nobody believes me and I still don't even know if she believes me I don't know if she's on my side courts coming up in June and everything is unknown and that's the worst feeling for a mother I wouldn't wish this type of experience on anyoneHopefully things start looking up but that's just wishful thinking it's so bad that last week on Wednesday in order to keep my kids safe keep myself safe I thought it was in the best interest for me to move out of state and have them switch the case somewhere else because the policeThe court system the justice system is failing most of the victimsAnd it's sad and heartbreaking cuz majority of those victims end up deadAndThe world just keeps going on like nothing ever happenedBut this man stalks meAnd then lies about itI've changed my number multiple times becauseFor whatever reason he keeps getting my numberI've took a screenshots ofHim calling multiple times even though his number is blocked on my phoneAnd stillEverybody has his best interestThey're feeding his ego and he's thriving off of itHe's over there happy and I'm over here lost confused trying to figure out what's going onAnd what's in store for my children nextI tried co-parenting with this man I've tried everythingBut you can't cope hair with a narcissistOnce he hasThe kids I have with him and his care it's going to be a control thingAnd that's something I can't doAnd sad parties I'm going to have to walk away from my children not because I don't want to be your motherIt's because I don't want to be controlled anymoreThe way thisCase is goingIt looks like he's going to get custodyI don't think anybody really looks atWhat they are going to endure being with himAll the stuff they're going to witness being with him and how that's going to affect them mentally emotionallyDevelopmentallyGrowing upAnd it terrifies me as a motherThat it makes my brain HaywireIt affects my sleepAnd affects the way I process thingsBecause I don't know what the future holds for my childrenAnd I have to solely rely onAn attorney that I don't knowAnd I don't know what her best interests areOr should I say intentionsSurrounding this caseOnlyI don't even know if I said that rightLike I said my brain doesn't process things the way I need it toBecause I didn't get time to process and heal from the domestic abuseFrom the mental and verbal and emotional abusePhysical abuse
