I used Clair Hillard for my divorce a couple years ago. Getting a hold of her was difficult, and I often felt discouraged after speaking to her regarding fighting against what my husband wanted at the time which was 50/50 custody. I was constantly basically told he would get what he wanted being a military man, despite my toddler living with me full time since being months old. Since then, I have spoken to other lawyers due to the parenting plan not being followed and have been told that that wasn’t the case, and it’s been made clear to me I should have seeked counsel elsewhere and done what I felt was right in my heart. Unfortunately, I am a single mom on a fixed income so it was difficult to change lawyers for me. The documents that my ex submitted including the financial affidavit was not even completed fully to confirm the child support was done accurately. My case is basically a mess. I tried using her again soon after the divorce (before knowing all of this) and she told me she had too many cases going on and refused mine. I truly trusted her judgement and went by her word, with her being a lawyer, and assuming she would do the best thing for my situation. Now changing the parenting plan is going to be hell and back when he obviously cannot commit to 50/50. I hope no other single parent with a fixed income gets screwed the way I was with her.
