Looked different in the snow. There's a few left in the area. I'm amazed at how it's still standing, after almost 200 years. Right off the road, so stop and take a look see.

We took a detour to have a break on our road trip home and this little area was very quiet and serene. We got there in the evening and was able to eat at a picnic table there. Was really awesome to see a small piece of history still standing.

Great place to see a furnace which is well preserved. Easy to get to, no long trail hikes here, parking lot and back across the lawn. No wheelchair access. Informative plaques so you can understand the smelting process. So many of these dot the PA countryside and fall into piles of rubble, this one is pristine by comparison.

Very cool from the outside, good history lesson on the times when furnaces were booming. I really wish it would have been open so the inside could be viewed to get the full effect of what it took to not only construct this but also to man it for production. This is free to see and literally right aside the street it is on, so no money needed for this one.

A great example of Western PA history, Eliza furnace was built in 1845. It was used in the production of pig iron and is one of the best preserved examples of the Ritter style furnace. The site is easily accessed by car or nearby bike trail. I didn't see picnic tables, but there's a bathroom facility on site that was open during our early April visit. No staff was present. The tour is entirely self guided. Informational placards tell the story.

1846, very well maintained Iron Furnace right on main street. Parking is limited though. To park, you have to drive up main street, park, then walk about 1/4 mile up the bike trail. The Eliza Furnace has information signs and a PA landmark sign.
