This firm prepared my taxes for the 2020 tax year. I remember that we had to file an extension, but everything seemed good at the time.
In early June of this year ('24), I received a letter from the IRS saying that they did an assessment of my 2020 IRS tax filing (they have 3 years from the time they review my taxes which was in May '20, the letter was dated May 22, 2024 but I didn't get it until 6/10/24), and that I owe $1897.00 for additional tax, and $303.94 for interest. I verified that with my IRS online account, so I know it wasn't a scam. The interest was accumulating daily, so I paid everything to mitigate the damages. There wasn't an explanation of what they found in their assessment as to why I owe more money for 2020. I tried to email Samantha Kelley about this when I first got the letter, but I received an automated reply that she is no longer with this firm.
I contacted Beth at this firm per the instructions on Samantha's automated reply. Beth, said Lara, the CPA there would get back to me, but Lara just sent an email back (not to me directly) saying that "he" (meaning me) should request the transcripts from the IRS. So, I did. Then about 2 weeks later, the IRS sent a letter back for each request that I made saying that they cannot locate the transcripts at this time. I let Beth know and she said that I should fill out a POA form so they can contact the IRS on my behalf. She sent me the form, but when I asked if I was going to get charged for Lara reaching out to the IRS for me to find out what is going on, Beth said yes, $200 per hour! I'm glad I asked before I filled it out.
Before I had asked Beth if this firm was contacted by the IRS prior to me getting my payment notice, since they are listed on my 2020 taxes as the preparer, but I never got an answer back about that. I hired this firm in 2020 so that I didn't have to worry about something like this and also thought at the time that they would have my back if the IRS made an inquiry about my tax return. I guess I was wrong.

Samantha Kelley and her team are top notch. Being a small business owner is hard enough without having to worry about taxes and the IRS. We had some very complicated tax issues when we decided to close our business. Samantha and her team have kept me and my husband out of financial ruin. Without her knowledge and professionalism I have no idea where we would have ended up financially (in a van down by the river probably!). The Best!
