A Warning to Folks to READ THE CONTRACT and ASK more questions. I know that sounds obvious however with Erika it's highly important. I have hired several lawyers in the past and this has never been an issue. My case got moved from Seminole county to St Lucie county and I had to find new representation for my highly contentious case regarding a modification of child support and modification of the parenting plan. I trusted the strategy that Erika provided given the length of time this case has gone on and the amount of money I had already spent. When I hired her we agreed to pursue one angle of the case to save time and money. She seemed straight forward and no fluff which I prefer in a lawyer. Unfortunately, when other issues arose in my case and I needed guidance and representation on these matters, she told me that our contract states that I hired her for a "limited scope". Let me be clear. YES I hired her and discussed a game plan of pursuing one angle of my case but NEVER was it discussed that this is the ONLY capacity she was being hired for. She still charged a full retainer fee (the same as any full service capacity lawyer). When she indicated her role and intent in my case, I shared my dissatisfaction. Instead of offering to charge more to represent me in the ways that my case unfolded, she immediately sent a withdrawal notice with zero attempt to resolve my concerns. I sent e-mails requesting that she stay on and represent me fully and she declined and further stated that my $4K retainer was non-refundable. When I sent a demand letter requesting a refund on my retainer citing that I did not breach the contract and that I felt her withdrawal was premature, she continued to press me to sign the withdrawal and stated she would continue to charge me until I signed it (even if the amount exceeds the retainer). I have stated this directly to Erika and I feel it deserves to be said here as well: A lawyers job is to do what is in the best interest of the client and offer guidance especially in areas that may leave them exposed. Erika did not act in my best interest by coming onto a highly contentious case in a limited capacity nor did she explain that the game plan we came up with was the ONLY way she would represent me. Instead she expected me to understand what the terminology "limited scope" meant in the contract that I signed. This should've been explained extensively upfront before signing, otherwise why would I pay a full retainer fee with her (the same amount that any other lawyer would charge) for limited services when I could've had full services. It was wrong that she quickly withdrew as well without any attempt to resolve the conflict or act in my best interest when additional circumstances arose. It was also wrong of Erika to not agree to pay back my non refundable retainer and expect me to sign the withdrawal before I had a chance to hire a new lawyer. There was definitely NO FLUFF but I didn't expect the "no fluff" attitude to be directed towards me (her client). I expected it to be towards our opponent. I will prevail in my case but not with Erika as my attorney. In the short time she was my lawyer she messed up paperwork didn't answer her phone when I needed her and only responded to e-mails in a timely manner if I labeled them urgent. The nail in the coffin was when she expected me to represent myself in areas that she cited were outside of the scope I hired her for yet said she'd be in attendance at the hearing watching me represent myself against the department of revenue. Goodbye Erika, I truly hope you lead a life of love and light moving forward because no person should endure being ripped off by a lawyer. We are not millionaires to be throwing around 4K nor are we educated to read legal jargon. As far as I can see, she is better at screwing over her clients with her arguments (defending why she should not return a portion of my retainer) than she is with opposing counsel. This is certainly not the way to conduct business.

I got serve with a restraining order and I hired Ms.powers and her team very professional and direct to the point. Great communication and handle the matter as fast as possible. Long story short Ms.power end up having the case drop and I’m free of the injunction and there some safety measures put in place as well for me and the accuser. All and all great work and I’m glad I hire the power law firm.

I highly recommend the Powers Law Firm!
Erika Powers is well versed on divorce, child custody and family law. She is accountable and expects the same from you!
I’ve used Erika Powers for my divorce, and most recently a relocation case brought on by my ex wife.
She thoughtfully considered my options and explained everything to me thoroughly. I felt so well at ease when I hired her. Erika made specific commitments to me about what we would do and how we would do it.
Erika insists on total honesty. She interviews you as a perspective client as well as you interviewing her. She works in a totally ethical manner and insists that you behave the same.
Erika Powers will carefully create a well thought out plan for your case, and then take the time to throughly explain it, and what could and could not happen. She is always prepared and has thought out the whole chain of options that might occur.
Erika is honest, professional, and will make you feel at ease whenever you struggle with any issue.
She tries consistently to settle matters outside of court, and she does this with integrity, and understanding.
I know I worry, and Erika was always there to talk me down and to remind me to stop overthinking and look at the facts.
I highly respect Erika Powers, and her office staff!
I had the best representation in the state of Florida!
