This place is incredible!!! So many hummingbirds. We also saw tons of butterflies, deer, squirrels, spiders, frogs, hawks, ladybugs, lizards, and woodpeckers. The walk is gorgeous. I would absolutely come here again and again.

It really is a nice hike to the top! Worth the hike too. We had 5 kids with us, none of which are too outdoors oriented. They all did fine with some benches to rest as you go. Friendly staff, will be back!

This was our first visit, and we will definitely be back! Absolutely beautiful, and the scent of pine everywhere was wonderful. We had several wildlife encounters (see photos). We made it to the first viewing area of the Overlook. We would have loved to make it all the way to the top, but I was feeling it. Lots of steps on a fairly steep trail, thankfully there's lots of shade on the way. Will have to get to the top another time, when I'm in better shape. There are lots of benches along the way, and the map the volunteers gave us was helpful in seeing how much further we had to go! The map details about the numbered stops were very informative. There is so much to see here! Bring lots of water and wear your sunscreen, even with the intermittent shade. We're considering the annual membership pass since we will certainly be back. Thanks to the volunteers for helpful tips before starting our hike. *We had a Coues deer calmly graze very close to us, then cross the trail right in front of us. Unfortunately I tried uploading an .mov clip of this, and also after converting to Mp4. No go.

We really enjoyed this area. Next door is the Ramsey Canyon B&B, separate from the preserve but they allow the public to sit on their grounds to bird watch. I'm new to bird watching but I always thought you go to the birds in the forest, not go and sit in front of bird feeders to watch them and the bird preserves we've been to, we've noticed an abundance of chatter and not from the winged species but the 2 legged kind. This is suppose to be a quiet area, not a place to socialize.

After driving 2 hours I got there and discovered it is NOT dog friendly.. that's my mistake. It says so online. It's quite pretty, and I'm sure great for birders. I'll stick with Madera so my pup can enjoy the canyon, too

OMG this place was so beautiful. I never expected to see fall colors like we did in Arizona! We went here in November during Thanksgiving week.
There were so many big beautiful wild turkeys and deer that were not afraid of humans taking their pictures ?
The hike up through the trees is an easy one and so worth it.
They have a great little gift shop and some history boards and displays.
It cost $7.00 a person to do the hike.

Beautiful for taking in the fall colors, wildlife, and of course birds. Choose from a short, easy hiking trail, or go all the way to the lookout point, with benches along the way to just sit and observe. Nice gift shop with friendly help. Free parking is limited, but we didn't mind paying to park at the small lodge next door.

Challenging uphill trail in beautiful wooded Valley. Well known birding area. Historical buildings from an early settler along path. Optional Steep, steep trail to lookout. Small gift shop in visitor center. We'll worth return hikes.
